Notes on the drawing set margins. N-1.4
Not really a note, simply 2 quotes, so you'll get into my shoes for a sec.

*"The Pre-Preliminary Phase pre-final building conditions & assessments reports prepared by...." (First sentence of the consultant's report on my desk)

*"Your mother does not work here! Clean after yourself!" (a poster in the boiler engineers' locker room)

Uhuh.
Try to read that sentence out loud...I wonder when he was writing it, did he try ...and could he think of some other word than "PREpared"?

At least it is not Pre-prepared!
Alas, people who geniunely care about language are seldom found in the building industry.

This guy is a registered architect. This means he's been professionally trained for to give presentations, write business documents and communicate with consultants. What's more, he's an AIA (member of American Institute of Architects), an exclusive prof. organization that makes every member to go through Con-Ed courses and earn credits every year, to maintain their membership...

Well, this just strengthens my point. He jumped through all those educational loops and nobody noticed, or cared enough to notice, that he is a crappy writer.

Bad prose isn't necessarily limited to the architectural world, although I'm sure it's present there as well.

People need to read more William Safire, in my opinion.

What really irritates me is when they confuse the adjective "loose" with the verb "lose."

Or when I happen to come upon that odd noun-not yet found in Merriam Webster's Dictionary-"looser."

I've even seen this in books!

Hardcover books released by legitimate publishing houses.

I'm not exaggerating!

That really annoys me, because it's one of those grammatical monstrosities that seems to have appeared out of nowhere and is now engulfing the entire planet.
