An evening of bliss
Thanks to this timely post by a friend, I've got to see, ALL AT THE SAME TIME, the giants: R.Kimball, Mark Steyn, Theodore Dalrymple (Dr. Anthony Daniels).

My only regret is that I don't have a laptop or a recording device - these would come handy, as I'd be able to share with you all the witty, hilarious and/or serious bits of the talk these esteemed gentlemen gave.

I've got Mr.Kimball to autograph his book for me.

And I am in love with Mark Steyn.

Update

Here's a link to New Criterion' description of the panel and the report afterwards.

Take a notpad and pencil with you.

OLD SKOOL!

:)

"America Alone" is a phenomenal book, which I probably would have put off reading indefinitely-even though Mark Steyn is one of my favorite writers, and was always the best part of TAS before that magazine tanked-if Karol hadn't kept plugging it on her blog.

But after buying it-and reading it in a day or so-I have to say it's probably the best "clash of civilizations" book I've seen since the one written by Lee Harris.

It's funny, because when the illustrator died I don't think it received that much media coverage.

Even though it was probably the most famous part of M.A.D. Magazine aside from Alfred E. Neumann.

Then again, I could be totally off.

I'm much more familiar with the TV series myself.

I prefer white since I'm tired of wearing Designer Black - what are your reasons?
And what about that guilty sub-conscience?

OT - can you meet me on Fri in the city during lunch time to get the ticket? I'd be much obliged.

Definitely.

Just send me an e-mail tonight at my Hotmail account later tonight.

Or better yet, to my real e-mail.

eastcoastconnectgjp@verizon.net.

I'll send you my cell phone number and you can call me Thursday or Friday morning.

Dalyrymple is great too.

I always look foward to his musings in City Journal.

He had a great essay once debunking all of these Shakespeare revisionists who insist that the Bard wasn't of the proper stock to write all of those wonderful plays and sonnets.

Good question.

I'm beginning to feel like a latent agoraphobic, to be honest.

I was at the screening Frank Gaffney and Martyn Burke held at the Union Square Regal a few weeks ago, believe it or not.

Most of the YRs who were supposed to be there-the other Republican club, which I haven't been to in months-wound up being turned away.

Standing room only. Now that was something.

A bunch of crazy Messianic Lubavitcher were standing outside of the theater testifying for Menachem Schneerson, or in their words "Rebbe, Kind, Messiah of All Jews!!!"

They were kind of surprised when I told them I wasn't Jewish; they gave me an odd look.

That meandering tangent aside, I will try to make the next big public event-although I like hearing about your blogger parties and the ritzy galas you attend :)-you advertise.

FWIW, I do still check out your other weblog at rightevents-even though I don't think I've been on your mailing list since I dropped AOHell-every so often.

I was interested in going to a few of the ones you spotlighted in December. Unfortunately, that was when I came down with a rather horrid case of chicken pox so I was out of commission for a while.

Anyway, I've got a question-in return-for you:

When are you going to get a LiveJournal account instead of commenting anonymously?

Hmmm...?

:)

-good times, Gerard.

G, take a pity on Karol: she's already thorn between MySpace, AN, Rightwing events, Facebook - and all those ritzy galas!

Besides, I'm glad having you all here, nickname or not.
